Hiya! For those who don’t know me (you probably don’t; I’m new) my name is Livi. I’m 15 years old, in secondary school.
For those of you who are wondering, I don’t personally own any LOL Dolls, but my little step-sister owns so, so many. I used to think that they were just any old toys for “girls” in the sexist way they do it. And then I looked again, and I realised they were much, much more.
Growing up as a half-Mexican girl, I didn’t see any toys or “dolls” that weren’t white. I didn’t really see it then, but now I do. Now, toys have started to change for the better. LOL Surprise have dolls of all different skin colours, and it makes me just feel happy and recognised I guess. Even the people that do their YouTube channel are PoCs.
Sure, they’re pink and frilly (some of them) but they are very much on trend (with their sayings, clothes, etc.) and they teach young girls that it’s okay to be fashionistas, and care about their appearance, instead of the weird way of “feminism” that’s going on that says all girls have to be tomboys to stand up for themselves.
They’re fun, and representative, and an extremely clever idea. They’re the toys (apart form LEGO of course) that everyone should be buying for their kids.
